MSUM Hosts Bulldogs, Travels to Battle Beavers on Homecoming Week

| By:
MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead soccer is scheduled for a split week of NSIC competition as part of MSUM's Homecoming week. The Dragons will host Minnesota Duluth on Friday at 3 p.m. before traveling north for a meeting with Bemidji State on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Live video and stats will be available at msumdragons.com. Moorhead is coming off a pair of losses at home last week to Winona State (1-0) and Concordia-St. Paul (3-0).

Matchup History...Minnesota Duluth has won the last 12 of the last 13 meetings with the Dragons dating back to the 2012 season. MSUM and UMD played to a 1-1 double overtime draw on October 13, 2019. Moorhead has not defeated the Bulldogs since September 17, 2011, a 2-1 Dragon conquest. In total, Minnesota Duluth is 25-3-2 against the Dragons. Bemidji State has won the last seven matches with the Dragons dating back to the 2021 campaign. MSUM last defeated the Beavers on November 1, 2019 in a 1-0 affair. The Beavers hold the all-time series record, holding 23 wins to MSUM's 13, including one draw. Moorhead won the first 10 matchups with the Beavers, including a 12-0 victory in the first-ever meeting on September 18, 1996.

Thompson Earns The Honor...Junior midfielder Sophie Thompson earned MSUM's Student-Athlete of the Month Award for the August and September. Through nine matches in those two months, Thompson had already logged six points, including two goals and a pair of assists. The Auckland, New Zealand, native played a total of 705 minutes for the Dragons with eight starts. Thompson began her season logging an assist in MSUM's draw with Montana State Billings on September 3. The junior would enter the scoring column a few weeks later against Wayne State on September 11. Thompson had a dazzling goal that proved to be the game-winner against the Wildcats. She would score her second goal in three matches the following week, converting on a penalty kick to help the Dragons earn a draw with Sioux Falls. To conclude the month, Thompson sparked a remarkable corner kick goal from Mary Cox against Northern State on September 27.

Tick Tick Tick...Fifth-year Lizzy Jaraczeski as well as Lily Allen, Madison Sharp and Kaci Malo, logged full 90 efforts in at least one match for the Dragons last week. Allen is second on the team (non-goalkeeper) with 901 minutes played so far this season. Jaraczeski is not far behind, having logged 834 minutes so far this season. Cox currently leads MSUM in minutes player, tallying 990.

Teamwork Makes The Dream Work...Moorhead pieced together a remarkable double assist goal against Northern State on September 27. MSUM earned a corner kick in the 69th minute. On the corner, Sophie Thompson would deliver a ball that bounced once before being poked by the foot of Kaci Malo. The ball would take a Dragon bounce, landing in front of Mary Cox, who squared up for an attempt. Cox's mark found the top left corner of the net, equalizing the match at 69:24. Both Thompson and Malo gathered assists on the spectacular Dragon goal.

Finding The Opportunity...On Sunday against Concordia-St. Paul, Moorhead peppered in 15 total shots, the second-highest tally of the 2026 season (19 vs Southwest Minnesota State). Of those 15 shots, seven were logged on goal, which matches a team-high for the season (vs Sioux Falls). As a team, MSUM has 39 attempts on net this season for a collective .394 on-goal percentage.

Scott Forster is in his third season as MSUM's head soccer coach.
