MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead track & field will wrap up the 2024-25 regular season this weekend as the Dragons head across town for the Cobber Open hosted by Concordia College. Events are slated to begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Live results will be available at msumdragons.com. MSUM is coming off a busy week which saw the Dragon throwers compete at the Viking Twilight and the distance squad racing at the Gary Wilson Invitational. The Dragons also competed at the Bison Open on Thursday and Friday.
In Valley City on Tuesday,
Jack Stewart would lead off the afternoon for the Dragons in men's hammer throw, placing third behind a personal best throw of 143-02 (43.64m).
Ben Nyreen (42.43m) and
Landon Nicholas (37.74m) would finish fourth and seventh respectively. The mark for Nicholas is a new personal best effort.
Codi Bunting would lead the Dragon women in hammer throw, also placing third with a toss of 137-03 (41.84m). Senior
Katelyn Zaiger would place fifth with a top mark of 131-10 (40.20m) while
Kiley Kranz placed eighth (38.79m). Kranz would own women's shot put on Tuesday, winning the event with a personal best throw of 43-09.75 (13.35m). The sophomore claimed the event by over one meter with the toss, moving Kranz to fourth all-time in MSUM history. Kranz's mark stands as the fourth-best in the Northern Sun so far this season.
In Minneapolis on Wednesday,
Grace Dorsher and
Kaela Traugott would turn in strong performances for MSUM to begin the day in the 3000m steeplechase. Dorsher would clock a 11:38.65 mark to place sixth while Traugott registered a fresh personal best of 12:02.07 to place seventh. The mark for Traugott improves on the 10
th-fastest time in program history.
Colin O'Farrell would pace the Dragon men behind an event win in the 800m Wednesday afternoon. O'Farrell clocked a winning time of 1:51.94, the second-fastest run of his career.
Rory Richardson would mark a new outdoor personal best in the same event with a time of 1:57.68.
In the women's 1500m,
Abbie Christen would lead the Dragons, placing 20
th overall with a time of 4:58.41.
Katelyn Kennedy would mark a 5:15.74 time in the same race.
Madison Kepner would conclude competition for the day, clocking a 19:43.01 in the 5000m run, a new personal best. Kepner erased nearly 30 seconds off her previous collegiate best. A heavy Dragon contingent competed in the men's 5000m run as well with
Chase Hoechst leading the way. Hoechst clocked a 14:49.99 time to finish third and set a new personal best. The mark is also the eighth-fastest 5000m time in program history. Freshmen
Lander Lahtinen (15:08.27) and
Zane Guderjahn (15:13.47) would mark new outdoor bests, placing sixth and seventh respectively. In the same race,
Salman Mohamed would finish just outside the top ten, finishing 11
th with a personal best run of 15:24.78. Mohamed shaved over 30 seconds off his prior best time.
Luke Buentello would also register a new personal best in the race, clocking a 15:39. 92.
At the Bison Open,
Frosty Wisnewski would clock a new personal best in the men's 400m, placing fifth with a mark of 50.55.
Manjot Singh would place sixth with a time of 51.58 in the same race. Serrao would lead the way for MSUM in the 400m hurdles, clocking a 1:09.07 to finish fifth.
Liv Birkeland (1:09.64) and
Evelyn Nydegger (1:14.10) would set new personal bests in the same event, placing sixth and eighth respectively.
Jasiah Hambira and
Jaiden Peraza would highlight MSUM's efforts in men's high jump with both clearing 6-10.75 (2.09m). For Hambira, it is a new personal best jump and improves on his NCAA provisional mark. Peraza's clearing moves him into NCAA provisional qualification for the first time this outdoor season.
Mac Kunza (1.94m) would also set a new personal best in the same event, finishing seventh. In women's high jump,
Kilee Bladow would mark a new personal best jump of 5-02.25 (1.58m) while
Hunter Petersen (1.53m) also finished within the top ten.
Rollie Hanna would dominate in men's triple jump, winning the event with a leap of 46-00.75 (14.04m), winning by nearly a full meter.
Kade Larson (12.29m) would place fifth in the same event.
Kranz would see another strong showing in women's shot put, placing fourth with a toss of 43-01 (13.13m). Kranz was the top NCAA Division II finisher in the event. In men's discus,
Jack Stewart (38.74m) and
Landon Nicholas (35.80m) would register new personal bests. In Thursday's hammer throw,
Ben Nyreen would lead the MSUM men with a personal best toss of 147-02 (44.87m) to place ninth. Stewart (43.62m) narrowly missed a new personal best in the same event, finishing 10
th overall.
Katelyn Zaiger would be MSUM's top finisher on the women's side, marking a new personal best of 140-10 (42.93m) to place 15
th.
James Dorado would earn an event win in the men's 5000m, marking a time of 15:57.91.
Abbie Christen (4:58.81) would pace the Dragons in the women's 1500m, placing third while
Katelyn Kennedy (5:16.89) would place ninth.
Colin O'Farrell would mark a runner-up finish in the same event on the men's side, clocking a 4:03.54.
Austin Dibble would register a fresh personal best of 4:19.25 in the same race, placing eighth. Christen would be MSUM's top finisher in the 800m as well, clocking a time of 2:28.07.
Rory Richardson would register an outdoor personal best on the men's side, marking a 1:56.88 to place fourth overall.
The Dragon men are ranked 20th in the Central Region this week per the USTFCCCA regional index while MSUM's women are ranked 23rd in the region. In USTFCCCA's weekly #EventSquad rankings, MSUM's men's high jump group is ranked fifth in the nation.
