LAKE CITY, Minn. – MSU Moorhead golf would improve by 39 strokes from day one to day two at The Watkins Invitational, hosted by Winona State University.
The Dragons would finish 11
th in the overall team standings with a 36-hole score of 739.
MSUM would shoot a collective 389 score on day one at The Jewel with junior
Halle Balluff leading the individual scoring. Balluff netted an 87 on her scorecard in a round that saw her sink a trio of birdies. All of Balluff's one-under marks came on par-four holes, including one on the 17
th hole at The Jewel.
Aspen Beyer would be right behind Balluff on the leaderboard, turning in an 89. The true freshman played her best round of collegiate golf to date, holing a birdie and four pars. Beyer's birdie came on the par-four 12
th hole.
Erin Summerbell would pencil in a 96 in the first round with three pars and a pair of birdies. Summerbell earned one-under marks on the par-four second and sixth holes. Rounding out the team scoring for MSUM was
Emma Peterson, who shot a 117 with an even score on the par-four third hole.
Day two saw the Dragons improve in all four spots, including the overall team score. MSUM compiled a cumulative 350 score with Beyer leading the way. The true freshman built on her performance from Monday, improving by 11 strokes to shoot an impressive 78 to establish another collegiate-best. Beyer was steady all round, putting in eight pars and a pair of birdies, one of which came on the par-five eighth hole at The Jewel. The 18-hole round is just three strokes off the MSUM school record held by Balluff.
Balluff would see a better outing on Tuesday as well, shooting an 81 to improve by six shots. The junior was strong all day as well, holing seven pars and two more birdies. Balluff penciled in a four on the par-five 16
th hole. Peterson would continue MSUM's string of improvement, marking a 106 to best her Monday score by 11 strokes.
Summerbell would tie a bow on the Dragon performance, shooting a second-round 85 to also improve by 11 strokes. The senior had eight even scores in the round, headlined by four consecutive pars on the first four holes at The Jewel.

MSUM will turn around and play again this weekend as they head to Marshall, Minn., for the EverSpring Inn & Suites Mustang Invitational. Action from Marshall Golf Club will tee off on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
