Bruer Scorches 800m Record to Lead MSUM at Drake Relays

| By:
DES MOINES, Iowa – Braxton Bruer reset the MSUM 800m record while Shyrone Kemp, Adnew Stueven and the 4x400m relay team registered season bests at the Drake Relays.

The Dragons only competed at the Thursday and Friday portions of the meet as they travel back this evening for the 36th annual Ron Masanz Classic in Moorhead tomorrow afternoon.

Middle Distance/Distance

Braxton Bruer kicked off the meet in style for MSUM on Thursday evening in the 800m run. The junior finished fifth with a new school record time of 1:49.45. The time snaps an MSUM record set by Brad Milbeck in 1986 and is the ninth-fastest 800m time in Division II this season.

Adnew Stueven reset his season best time in the 3000m steeplechase on Thursday night, turning in an impressive 9:01.65. The time crushes Stueven's previous best this season of 9:16:13. Stueven's mark is the 15th-fastest steeplechase in Division II this year and inches him closer to his own school record time of 9:00.64.

Jumps

Shyrone Kemp put in a season best mark of 49'0.25" (14.94m) in the men's triple jump on Friday. The jump was good enough to get Kemp fifth place in the event that featured two NCAA-Division I competitors. It is the seventh-best mark in Division II this year.

Relays

The 4x400m relay team of Ibrahim Oduong, Kendrick Major, Elliott MacLennan and Braxton Bruer clocked a season-best time of 3:13.16 to finish seventh overall in the preliminary heat. The quartet did qualify for Saturday's finals, but they have opted to not run in order to make it back to Moorhead for the Ron Masanz Classic. It is the sixth-fastest relay in Division II this year and is an NCAA provisional time.
