BURNSVILLE, Minn. — Minnesota State University Moorhead senior post
Megan Hintz has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North Division Preseason Player of the Year in women's basketball, it was announced on Thursday. The Dragon women, who've won the past three NSIC regular season titles, were picked to win the league in a preseason poll of the league's coaches.
MSUM finished with 217 points and nine first-place votes in the poll to edge University of Sioux Falls by three points. USF received six first-place votes. Minnesota Duluth, which was picked third, got the other first-place vote. The Dragons were also picked to win the NSIC North Division over Minnesota Duluth.
Hintz is entering her third year as a starter for the Dragons. She was an All-NSIC First Team selection last season after averaging a double-double of 15.2 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. She shot 56.3 from the field and had 16 double-doubles last season.
Also returning as starters for MSUM are senior forward
Madi Green and junior guard
Lauren Fech. Also returning with experience are junior guard
Brooklyn Liegel, sophomore guards
Nicole Herbranson and
Natalie Steichen and sophomore forwards
Peyton Boom and
Nicole Brown.
MSUM is entering the 20th season under the direction of Head Coach
Karla Nelson. The Dragons have never had a losing season in Nelson's tenure.
MSUM opens the season on Nov. 8 vs. Central Missouri in Aberdeen, S.D.
