Dragon Women Host Minnesota Morris in Exhibition on Friday

MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team will open the exhibition season on Friday night when the Dragons play host to the University of Minnesota-Morris. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Nemzek Fieldhouse and it part of a women's and men's basketball exhibition doubleheader.

Last season the Dragons finished with a 23-6 mark—their third straight season of 20 wins or more. MSUM earned their second straight regular-season conference title with a 19-3 record in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Dragons also earned their second straight trip to the NCAA tournament.

Senior guard Jacky Volkert averaged 13.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game last season in route to being an All-NSIC First Team honoree. She set the new MSUM single-season record with 156, and is closing in on 1,000 career points as a Dragons—entering this season with 912.

Junior forward Megan Hintz enters the season after averaging 11.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game last season. Sophomore guard Lauren Fech started all 29 games at point guard last year and recorded 74 assists. Sophomore guard Kiley Borowicz is also back after appearing in 28 games and averaging 7.3 points per game.

Scouting the Opposition
Minnesota Morris

The Cougars were 13-13 overall and 12-4 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference last season to finish in a tie for second. Minnesota Morris returns three All-UMAC players from last season. Senior guard Elli Stevenson was a First-Team All-UMAC member for the second straight season. Stevenson led the Cougars in scoring with 13.0 points/game and in assists with 4.2/game. Senior forward Kendra Raths was a Second-Team All-UMAC performer after averaging 12.2 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. She also led the conference in blocked shots with 52. Head coach Tim Grove is in his 13th season at the helm.
