OMAHA, Neb. – The final round of the NCAA Division-II National Championships started at Nebraska-Omaha and junior
Derek Bomstad looked to rebound from a close loss and win out in the third place bracket. Bomstad's efforts in the tournament paid off as the junior placed sixth overall and came away with All-American honors.
Bomstad started the late session with match up against Thomas Hepburn (Nebraska-Kearney). Hepburn won a close match with a 3-2 decision and Bomstad moved on to the fifth place match against Minnesota State Mankato's Travis Elg.
Elg gained a pin of Bomstad at the 1:12 mark of the match to secure fifth while Bomstad placed sixth. Bomstad's two wins early in the tournament made him eligible for All-American honors.
Bomstad was joined by four other Dragons in the tournament in
Kris Nelson's first year as Head Coach of Dragons wrestling. The Dragons finished the season ranked No. 19 in the nation after the regional tournament.
