JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Minnesota State Moorhead softball dropped a pair of NSIC contests on Friday afternoon. The Dragons fell to Jamestown in a site reversed doubleheader.
Game One
Both teams would be held without a hit in the first frame with Moorhead's first hit coming off the bat of
Lexie Wilson in the second inning. Neither team would score across the first two innings before Jamestown scored three runs on three hits in the top of the third.
Morgan Kingsbury would get MSUM's offense rolling in the bottom half, earning a leadoff single. The ensuing at-bat would see
Teagan Pranchke single with Kingsbury eventually scoring after a Jimmie error.
The Dragons would continue to chip away at the Jamestown lead in the fourth inning as
Courtney Locke and Wilson would earn back-to-back hits. A few at-bats later, true freshman
Riley Dunne would score Locke on an RBI single, bringing MSUM within one run.
Moorhead would have a chance to even the score in the bottom of the sixth inning after Wilson secured her third hit of the ballgame. The Dragons would get a runner to third base in the frame but would come up empty in the end. Jamestown led 3-2 heading into the seventh inning.
The Jimmies would capitalize on Moorhead's empty chance, scoring three runs on three hits to create a 6-2 lead. While
Riley McKeever would give MSUM a baserunner in the final half inning, Jamestown would secure the 6-2 victory. Wilson, Pranchke and Kingsbury each had multi-hit showings for MSUM.
Game Two
Jamestown would continue its run-scoring ways early in game two, scoring two runs on two hits to establish a lead in the first. Pranchke would get on base thanks to a single to open the bottom half. While the senior would work to third base with no outs, she would eventually be called out for leaving third early on a flyout. Moorhead would come up without a run in the inning. The Jimmies would go on to hold the Dragons hitless in the second and third innings.
The Jimmies would score an additional three runs on five hits in the top of the fourth to push their lead to five runs. Pranchke would earn third base following a Jamestown error in the bottom half. However, the senior was again called out at home following squeeze attempt from
Sami Macchiaroli. In the fourth and fifth innings, Moorhead would again be held without a hit.
Loie Moore would end the dry spell for the Dragons in the bottom of the sixth, earning a one-out single. The freshman would move to third base with two outs before Macchiaroli sliced a single to provide MSUM's first run. Jamestown would not allow anything more from there, winning 5-1.
