MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead tennis returns to Northern Sun action this week following a week of non-conference duals. The Dragons take on Bemidji State on Saturday at 4 p.m. before battling Minnesota Duluth on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Both matches will be played in Bemidji, Minn.
Matchup History...Moorhead defeated both Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth a season ago. The Dragons defeated the Beavers 7-0 on April 18, 2025 while also sweeping the Bulldogs on March 29, 2025. MSUM has won four straight duals against the Beavers while bolstering a 10-1 record over BSU in the last 11 matchups. Moorhead holds a two-dual streak over the Bulldogs and a 14-4 mark against UMD since the the 2009 season.
We Them Ones...The Dragons showcase one of the Northern Sun's top doubles teams in the number one pairing of
Luzmary Diaz Castillo and
Sophia Felderman. So far this season, the duo holds a 7-1 overall record, including a 3-1 mark in NSIC matches. The pair went a perfect 3-0 in MSUM's duals at Spring Break Tennis last week. This included a ranked win over St. Thomas Aquinas' Kateryna Kryuchkova and Sun Zhuoxuan. Entering that match, the opposing pair was ranked 32nd in the nation and eighth in their region per the ITA rankings index. This week, the Dragon pair was ranked 33rd in the country in the ITA doubles rankings.
Bonini Catching Fire...Sophomore
Camilla Bonini has found her footing at the number five singles position for the Dragons. Bonini won her lone singles match as a part of Spring Break Tennis, defeating St. Thomas Aquinas' Monica Blucher in convincing straight sets (6-0, 6-0). In total, Bonini has won three of her last four singles matches and enters the weekend with a two-match streak in NSIC competition.
First Victory Tallied...As part of MSUM's Spring Break Tennis trip, true freshman
Alayna Johnson earned her first collegiate victory. In MSUM's dual against St. Thomas Aquinas, Johnson secured a straight sets win over Chanelle Russell (6-0, 6-0). That victory came in the number six singles position.
Looking For Number 10...Both Diaz Castillo and Felderman have earned nine singles victories so far this season. Diaz Castillo collected a singles victory over East Stroudsburg's Lea Stefanovic at Spring Break Tennis (7-5, 6-4). Felderman battled for an impressive tiebreaker victory against the Warriors as well, topping Audrey Conover (6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5)).
