SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team was swept by No. 19-ranked Sioux Falls on Friday, losing 25-20, 25-20, 25-18.
MSUM fell to 5-6 overall and 0-3 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while USF improved to 11-0 overall and 3-0 in the league.
Sophomore hitter
Amanda Carlson had 13 kills and hit .423 to lead the hitting attack. Sophomore hitter
Sarah Petrbok had eight kills.
Freshman setter
Amber Bretwisch had 13 assists while sophomore setter
Katelyn Selensky had 12. Freshman hitter
Brooke Walthall had a team-best nine digs. Sophomore hitter Layla Sanati-Zaker and freshman hitter
Teeya Doppler had three block assists each.
MSUM was within 12-11 in the first set after a kill from senior middle blocker
Kaylyn Jenkins but USF scored the next five points to build a 17-11 lead. MSUM got within 22-19 with Sanati-Zaker and Doppler teaming up for a block. But MSUM got no closer and fell 25-20.
In the second set, USF built an 18-11 lead but the Dragons cut the gap to 20-17 with a freshman hitter
Bridget Witzmann. But they couldn't close the gap further and fell 25-20.
A Petrbok kill put MSUM up 10-8 in the third set, but USF rattled off the next five points to take a 13-10 lead. The Dragons got no closer than two the rest of the way and fell 25-18.
MSUM faces No. 9 Southwest Minnesota State at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Marshall, Minn.
