MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team opens practice for the 2019 season on Monday. The Dragons are entering their 25th year under the guidance of Head Coach Tammy Blake, who is the longest-tenured coach at MSUM and longest-tenured volleyball coach in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Last season, the Dragons finished with an 11-16 overall record and 7-13 in the NSIC.  They return three starters from that team.

Hitter Kaylyn Jenkins returns for her senior season. She was second on the Dragons last season with 221 kills. Jenkins also led the team with 1.04 blocks per set, fifth-best in the NSIC.  Senior defensive specialist Taylor Thorson is also back after recording 241 digs a year ago. Sophomore hitter Amanda Carlson had a solid freshman campaign, leading the team with 274 kills and was second with 260 digs.

The Dragons kick off the season on Sept. 6 in Edinboro, Pa., for the Rebich Investments Tournament.  MSUM's home and NSIC opener is Sept. 20 vs. Wayne State College.
