MOORHEAD, Minn. — Minnesota State University Moorhead graduate Drew Sannes is excited for the chance to play professional basketball overseas.

Sannes, who wrapped up a stellar Dragon career last March, will play for the Herner TC team in the Damen Basketball Bundesliga League in Germany. It is the highest league in Germany. Herner TC finished third in the league tournament and consists of players from Germany, the U.S., The Netherlands, Australia and Belgium.

"First of all I want to say thank you to the entire MSUM community for the last five years I was lucky enough to be a Dragon," Sannes said. "I can't thank the coaching staff, former teammates, and all other supporters enough for all they've done and for getting me to where I am today. I will always be a Dragon but I'm excited to step out of my comfort zone and play professional basketball in Germany this year. The first three weeks of preseason training and living abroad are going well; I'm experiencing so many new things every single day. My hope for the season is to play whatever role is needed to help Herner TC reach great success!"

Herner TC's first official game is Sept. 29. The team will play five "friendly" preseason games.

The Hawley, Minn., native led the Dragons in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots in 2017-18. She leaves MSUM as the all-time leader in blocks and in the top 10 in both scoring and rebounding. Sannes also earned CoSIDA Academic All-American First Team honors, becoming the first Dragon women's player to receive that prestigious award.

Sannes was an CoSIDA Academic All-American First Team selection this past season and was a three-time NSIC All-Academic selection. She had a 4.0 GPA in business administration. She was a two-time All-NSIC First Team selection in women's basketball, including earning Player of the Year honors in 2016-17.
