MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team opens practice for the 2018-19 season on Monday. The Dragons are entering their 19th season under the direction of head coach Karla Nelson, who has never had a losing season as MSUM head coach.

The Dragon women return three starters from last year's 23-6 team that won the NSIC regular season title for a second straight year. That includes All-NSIC First Team selection Jacky Volkert, who averaged 13.7 points and 5.4 assists last season. Volkert is a senior guard. Junior center Megan Hintz is back after averaging 11.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, while sophomore guard Lauren Fech started all 29 games at point guard and averaged 3.3 points and 2.6 assists per game.

MSUM hosts Minnesota Morris in an exhibition game on Nov. 2 before opening the regular season vs. Arkansas Tech on Nov. 9 in Kansas City, Mo.
