MSUM TO INDUCT FIVE INTO
DRAGON HALL OF FAME

MOORHEAD, MN- - - (September 22, 2008)- - - Four student-athletes who charted memorable careers on and off the athletic field will be inducted into the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon Hall of Fame this fall.

Jen Bagley, Nate Hendrickson, Brad Milbeck and Jason Sjostrom will be honored by the Dragon Athletic Department at the Dragon Hall of Fame banquet at the Ramada Plaza Hotel and Suites in Fargo, ND on Saturday, October 4. In addition, retired Biology professor and former Faculty Athletic Representative Dr. Richard Pemble will be presented the Distinguished Service Award.

The selection increases to 138 the number of inductees in the Dragon Hall of Fame. The legendary Alex “Sliv” Nemzek was the charter member in 1961. A closer look at the induction class of 2007:

Pemble came to MSUM in 1969 after earning his doctorate in botany from the University of California/Davis. He chaired the department for nine years and was administrative coordinator for MSUM’s Regional Science Center from 1988-1990. Pemble, who served six years on the Moorhead School District Board of Education, in 1995 received the Conservation Achievement Award from the Minnesota Chapter of The Nature Conservancy and the Yokely Faculty Service Award from Beta Beta Beta, the national honor society for biology undergraduates. He was also named the Dille Distinguished Faculty Lecturer in 2005 and received MSUM’s Excellence Award for Service to the Community and the Excellence Award for Teaching.

The most dominant pitcher in Dragon softball history, Bagley was a four-year starter and anchor of a pitching staff that led MSUM to NAIA national tournament appearances in 1995 and 1996. She was named to All-NSIC teams in 1995 and 1996 and also lettered in golf at MSU Moorhead. A graduate of Mesabi East High School and a native of Hoyt Lakes, Bagley later served as pitching coach of the Dragons and is currently the head softball coach at Missouri Western State.

A NCAA Division II national champion at 167 pounds in 1997, Hendrickson was voted the NCAA Division II Wrestler of the Year. The Menagha native was a four-year letterman at MSUM and a three-time national placewinner. Hendrickson placed fourth at 158 in 1996 and sixth at 167 as a senior in 1998. Hendrickson claimed four individual NSIC titles from 1995-98. A member of the MSUM Advisory Board for Construction Management, Hendrickson is facilities manager for Tri-County Health Care in Wadena.

A 1981 graduate of Pelican Rapids High School, Milbeck excelled in sprints and relays for Minnesota State Moorhead. Milbeck earned All-American honors for second place finishes in the two mile at the 1984 NAIA Indoor, the 800 at the 1986 NAIA Outdoor, the two mile relay at the 1984 and 1985 NAIA Indoor, and a third place with the distance medley relay team at the 1985 NAIA Indoor. Milbeck set the existing school indoor record of 1:05.29 in the 500 meters in 1984. He competed in the Boston Marathon in 2008. Milbeck reside in Brainerd.

A Valley City, ND native, Sjostrom placed third at 134 pounds at the NAIA National Wrestling Championships in 1994 and 1995, Sjostrom captured NSIC individual titles in 1991, 1994 and 1995. Sjostrom is employed in sales and marketing by Custom Marketing Co. and is a six-time winner of the Salesman of the Year award. He was also named to the Valley City High School Hall of Fame in 2007.
