SARTELL, Minn. – The second tennis weekend of the season did not follow as the first did while the Minnesota State University Moorhead women fell 7-2 to St. Ben's and 8-1 to Minnesota State University Mankato. The Dragons (1-2, 1-1 NSIC) traveled to Sartell, Minn. to face the Blazers (2-1) and Mankato, Minn. to face the Mavericks (4-2, 2-0 NSIC).
Kayla Huether provided the Dragons with their only singles winner on both days while also helping win a doubles match against the Blazers. Her doubles partner,
Alyse Grelson, helped Huether pull out the win at Gold's Gym in Sartell.
Huether began Friday's matchup by taking on Lauren Jones in the No. 1 spot. After winning the first match 6-4, Huether fell 2-6 in the second. The Dragon came back from the lost match by scoring a 10-5 decision to seal the win. The last win on the day came as Huether and Grelson took on the doubles pair of Jones and Sarah Rossman. The No. 1 spot in doubles was won by the Dragons with a final of 9-7.
The Dragons traveled the next day to Mankato and received one win from Huether in singles action. Huether was able to take the win by going into extra sets, 7-6 (5) 7-6 (3). The win would be the only on the day to set the final score at 8-1, MSU Mankato.
MSUM will next play host to the University of Sioux Falls on Sunday, Feb. 26 at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.
