Dragons Cross Country Runners Among Leaders at Roy Griak Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's and women's cross country teams competed Saturday at the Roy Griak Invitational where the Dragon's finished sixth and 12th overall, respectively.

The Dragons' men's squad surprised many of the NCAA DII institutions as they climbed up to sixth place finishing behind both NSIC rivals, Minnesota State Mankato and Augustana (S.D.) but ahead of St. Cloud State, Northern State and Minnesota-Duluth who all also finished in the top-15. MSUM finished with a average time of 27:10 with 173 points. Augustana finished third with 97 points and Minnesota State had 98 points in fourth.

Scott Egeberg paced the Dragons finishing in 26 minutes flat, in third place overall. David Teige finished one minute and six seconds later in 29th place and Mike McConnell finished in 27:15 in 35th place.

Adam Kne and Clayton Foster rounded out the top five for the Dragons finishing in 48th and 58th overall, in times of 27:38 and 27:50, respectively.

Anna VanWechel crossed the finish line in the women's DII race in fifth place running the 6K in a time of 22:26. She was over two minutes in front of her teammates.

Kari Bloch finished 72nd overall with a time of 24:59 and was infront of Amanda Wickersham by three seconds, finishing two places later. Sara Julsrud and Daniele Thompson rounded out the Dragons' scorers in 99th and 124th places in times of 25:29 and 26:18.

The Dragons will race next at the Jimmie Invitational in Jamestown, N.D. on October 2nd.
