Dragons fall in road test to Augustana

| By:
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Minnesota State University Dragon soccer team (5-8-1 overall, 2-7 NSIC) traveled to Augustana (5-6-5 overall, 2-3-4 NSIC) to take on the Vikings in an NSIC matchup.

The Dragons forced the Vikings on their heels as Junior Laura Kohtala rang the first Dragon shot off the crossbar. Freshman Jordan Wallenborn followed with a shot high above the goal a minute later.

Wallenborn's second shot would not miss its intended mark twice as she scored and the Dragons took an early 1-0 lead (09:46).

The Dragons did not let up, attacking with six more shots towards the Vikings goal but goalkeeper Melissa Fowler tightened up in her own net and kept the Dragon lead at one.

The Vikings answered in quick fashion as Jessie Huff tied the game on their third shot (29:14).

MSUM took the lead shortly after Huff tied the game, when Wallenborn once again found the back of the net  at 32:16. The goal was assisted by Kohtala and Roos, giving Roos two assists in the game.

After the break, AC's Katie Shandri tied the game early on to start the second frame (50:54). The scoring would snowball on the Dragons as the Vikings scored two more goals in under seven minutes.

The Dragon could not mount a rally and fell short. The loss puts the Dragons now 2-8 in conference play and puts them at a 5-10-1 record overall. Augustana moves up to 3-3-4 in the NSIC and gives them a 6-6-5 mark on the season.

MSUM will travel to Wayne State to take on the Wildcats in their final regular season road game Sunday at 1 p.m.
